Project description

As part of the grid expansion for the energy transition, a grid reinforcement, a so-called grid booster, was planned by TransnetBW near Kupferzell to counteract grid bottlenecks and increase transmission capacity.

The project includes the construction of a battery storage system including all necessary peripheral equipment with a capacity of 250 MW and a usable capacity of 250 MWh, which is to be used by Transnet BW as a grid booster. The system is to be ready for operation by January 1, 2025.

INP Services

  • In the first step of the project, different battery storage technologies were evaluated in cooperation with StoRegio with regard to their technical suitability for the intended application. In addition, the selection process of the supplier for the battery storage system was accompanied.
  • In a further step, INP was commissioned to prepare the specification for the primary technical components for connecting the batteries in the MS/HS grid.
