Project description

The world‘s first electric articulated buses of their kind have been put into operation in the canton of Geneva, Switzerland. The new buses feature a distinguishing, innovative drive system. The electricity for the electric drive comes from a battery, meaning that overhead lines are no longer necessary.

Flash-/terminal-charging technology allows the buses to recharge at selected bus stops within 20 seconds. Thanks to this smart energy management system, the size and weight of the battery is reduced to make space for up to 143 passengers.

On behalf of ABB, INP International Projects took over commissioning of line 23 with the battery-powered electric buses and was responsible for the monitoring, installation and quality inspection of the battery charging stations.

Thanks to great cooperation with all parties involved, the electric buses were successfully put into operation.
